Canary GeoCatch (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a location-based game that
lets you collect curated landmarks across the Canary Islands by visiting
them in person. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and your
choices. It applies to the Android app published under the package
com.canarygeocatch.canary_geocatch.

Summary
- We collect your location to detect when you arrive at a landmark and to show your position on the map.
- If you sign in with Google, we store your account name, email, and avatar so your progress survives reinstalls and to attribute tips you post.
- Tips you post are public user-generated content.
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or use your data for advertising.
- You can play without signing in, and you can decline background location.
1. Data we collect and why
Location data (precise: GPS)
- Foreground location — while you use the app, to show your position on the map and measure your distance to a landmark so you can “catch” it.
- Background location (“Allow all the time”) — optional. If you grant it, the app registers OS geofences so it can catch a landmark for you the moment you arrive, even when the app is closed. We show an in-app explanation before requesting this. If you decline, the app still works — you catch landmarks with the app open. You can revoke it anytime in your device Settings.
- Your location is used only to detect arrivals at landmarks and render the map. It is never shared with third parties or used for advertising.
- A capture record (which landmark, and when) is stored for your account.
Account data (only if you sign in with Google)
- Your Google display name, email address, and profile photo URL.
- Purpose: persist your capture progress across devices/reinstalls, and to show authorship on tips you post.
- You can use the app anonymously without signing in; an anonymous account has no name or email.
User-generated content (tips)
- If you are signed in, you can post short text “tips” about a landmark. Tips are public and shown to all users, alongside your Google name and avatar.
- Tips can be reported by any user for review; we remove tips that violate our content guidelines.
Diagnostic data
- We do not collect analytics or crash reporting in this version.
2. Where your data is stored
- Account, capture, and tip data are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore / Firebase Authentication), encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Map imagery is served by the Google Maps SDK for Android; your map interactions are subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
3. Data sharing
- We do not sell or rent your personal data.
- We do not share your data with third parties except the infrastructure providers above (Google Firebase, Google Maps) that operate the service.
4. Data retention and deletion
- Capture progress, account data, and your tips are retained while your account exists.
- To delete your data, sign out and request deletion by emailing apps@buenvest.com; we will delete your account record, captures, and tips. Uninstalling the app removes locally cached data from your device.
5. Children
- The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
6. Your choices
- Play anonymously (no name/email collected).
- Decline background location and still play with the app open.
- Revoke any location permission anytime in device Settings.
- Request account/data deletion (see §4).
7. Changes
- We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will change accordingly.
